Today, Pop Smoke’s team released his highly anticipated posthumous debut studio album, ‘Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon.’ This contains 19 tracks in total as it was led by the “Make It Rain” single feat. Rowdy Rebel. Among the other appearances on this project are Quavo on three songs, DaBaby, Lil Baby, 50 Cent (who executive produced the album), and more. It also included the 2019 platinum hit single, “Dior,” as a bonus track.
Earlier in the week, there was a debate as well about the lack of quality that Virgil Abloh put in on the original cover art. The end result was a black cover with a silver rose which was chosen by Smoke’s mother. The album was also initially supposed to be out on June 12 but was delayed to July 3 out of respect to the ongoing protests in America which highlighted racism and police brutality. The “Make It Rain” single was still released though.
Everyone was impressed with the work that the late Brooklyn rapper put into this album from the beginning of the album on the “Bad B*tch From Tokyo” intro to the “Tunnel Vision” Outro. Some of the fan-favorites on Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon are “For The Night” feat. Lil Baby and DaBaby which reached No. 1 on Apple Music, “44 Bulldog,” “Yea Yea,” and “West Coast S*it” feat. Quavo and Tyga. Some were skeptical about Tyga’s feature here but overall, he delivered and put on for the west.
Smoke also continued to prove his versatility on smooth love records such as “Something Special,” Diana” feat. King Combs, “Mood Swings” feat. Lil Tjay, and “What You Know Bout Love.” Smoke also still stuck to his unique New York drill sound on tracks such as Tunnel Vision, 44 Bulldog, Make It Rain, and “Gangstas.” He also impressed fans as his “Got It On Me” song sampled fellow New York rapper, 50 Cent’s classic 2003 “Many Men.” One ain’t that was missing that fans expected though was “Paranoia” feat. Young Thug, Gunna & Pusha T. Smoke’s manager, Steven Victor, has since said that it’s going through some adjustments and is on the way.
Overall, Smoke, showed tremendous on Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon from his previous Meet The Woo mixtapes. Smoke gained a buzz for himself in 2019 with the release of his breakout hit single, “Welcome To The Party.” This ended up receiving remixes from Skepta and Nicki Minaj. The original track appeared on his debut ‘Meet The Woo‘ mixtape. The sequel was released 12 days before his murder. He would go on to have other hits such as the Dior remix feat. Gunna and “Christopher Walking.” Now, fans have Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon on repeat as it may take the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200 from Lil Baby’s ‘My Turn‘ album next week.
This month marked the four-month anniversary of Pop Smoke being shot and killed in a Hollywood Hills mansion. LAPD still haven’t solved anything as they claim that potential witnesses have given false information or refuse to speak.
