We are seeing more celebrities use their platforms to address the injustice of George Floyd being killed by former Minneapolis PD officer, Derek Chauvin, and two other officers last week. More are actually starting to protest with the people in the streets as well.
A$AP Rocky said this evening that he’s been protesting in the streets without any press or cameras. He added that he isn’t doing this for bragging rights or photo ops. He believes he’s doing this genuinely. The Harlem rapper said that he doesn’t post his every move but he’s far from silent.
Rocky concluded his tweet by saying “F*ck 12.” This tweet helps his reputation a little bit after controversial 2015 comments about not speaking on the 2014 murder of Mike Brown in Ferguson, MO. He said “I’m A$AP Rocky. I did not sign up to be no political activist. I live in f*cking Soho and Beverly Hills. I can’t relate. I go back to Harlem, it’s not the same. It’s a sad story. I gotta tell you the truth.” This was in an interview with Time Out.
In that interview, Rocky also added that he’s not Al Sharpton. During his arrest in Sweden last summer after hitting a man who was following him which resulted in him being in jail for three weeks, this interview also surfaced. It’ll be interesting to see if he is now forgiven after claiming that he’s been protesting for Floyd.
