The coronavirus pandemic has been canceling, postponing, and suspending all forms of events in the music/entertainment industry due to fear of the spread of it. While we continued to see states open various aspects of their economies, the fear is still there when it comes to events.

The 93rd Academy Awards (Oscars) is set to take place in Los Angeles on February 28, 2021 but sadly, this may be postponed as well due to the Rona. According to a report by Variety, he Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will likely make his move happen. The Hollywood Reporter added that he Academy’s board of governors will have a Zoom meeting on June 15 to finalize an agreement on the postponement. The eligibility window would also be extended past December 31.

“The Academy firmly believes there is no greater way to experience the magic of movies than to see them in a theater. Our commitment to that is unchanged and unwavering. Nonetheless, the historically tragic COVID-19 pandemic necessitates this temporary exception to our awards eligibility rules,” said Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson in a statement. “The Academy supports our members and colleagues during this time of uncertainty. We recognize the importance of their work being seen and also celebrated, especially now, when audiences appreciate movies more than ever.”

This delay could be as long as eight weeks long. This is sad to hear considering the fact how far away the awards show is. We may see fans back in attendance at sporting events this year and maybe some concerts but the Academy Awards wants to make a decision on an event that isn’t for another eight months.
