Tensions between 50 Cent and Interscope Records have been very high for the past five years, when Curtis sold below 50’s expectations. Coming into his 2007 album, 50 Cent was used to selling millions of records per album. At the time feuding with Cam’ron, who only once went platinum in his career, 50 Cent boasted about his high numbers.
Soon, 50 Cent would learn what it was like to endure low album sales, as the follow-up to his self-proclaimed flop, Before I Self Destruct, failed to crack 400,000 copies to date. After the low sales of his fourth studio album, 50 Cent reportedly set up a deal with EMI Records. The label released Lloyd Banks’ third studio album, HFM 2 (The Hunger For More).
50 Cent has often complained about the lack of support from Interscope Records. Game, however, has had the full support of the label, as he recently released The R.E.D. Album and is preparing to release F.I.V.E. (Fear is Victory’s Evolution). Just as Game watched Ne-Yo title his album R.E.D., his old rival, 50 Cent, will name his upcoming fifth album, Five, also.
Several times, 50 Cent has stated he would release his album on July 3, with or without Interscope’s support.
