Since the summer of 2010, 50 Cent has discussed the release of his fifth studio album. When originally announced, the album was titled Black Magic. However, soon 50 Cent scrapped the concept of Black Magic and moved on to another concept. When asked about the album, 50 Cent has blamed the delays on Interscope Records. In 2007, 50 Cent had a highly-publicized feud with the label, dissing Interscope CEO, Jimmy Iovine.
With his album not likely to be released before the end of 2011, 50 Cent has decided to release an independent project. Before he was a mainstream artist, 50 Cent dominated the underground. In the late 1990s, 50 Cent recorded Power of the Dollar for Columbia Records. Following his shooting, 50 was dropped by the label. In response to this, 50 Cent independently released his album on the streets.
Unable to secure a record deal, 50 Cent began releasing mixtapes. In 2001, he released 50 Cent is the Future. The mixtape featured G-Unit for the first time and began a run that would not end for 50 Cent. Over the years, 50 Cent has released the successful Guess Who’s Back?, which gained him a meeting with Eminem and led to the release of Get Rich or Die Tryin’. It was after the release of this album when 50 Cent introduced the world to G-Unit and officially took over the game. Over the past ten years, fans have gotten to know 50 Cent and now he is returning to his mixtape roots.
50 Cent is currently working on a ten track project, which will include a video for each track. The project will be called The Big 10 and 50 Cent also said his fifth album will be released next month, although no release date has been announced.
