2022 GRAMMYs officially gets postponed, due to COVID-19 concerns

Over the last week, there’s been speculation regarding if the 2022 GRAMMYs will get postpone, due to COVID-19 concerns. This ended up being the case in January 2021, and was moved to March.

Now, this latest postponement is now unfortunately official. According to CBS, this move was made due to concerns of the Omnicron variant of the virus. This is happening despite many proposing to simply mandate proof of vaccinations. The ceremony was originally scheduled for January 31.

“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show,” said CBS and the Recording Academy in a statement.

“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night® on a future date, which will be announced soon.

The nominees for the 2022 GRAMMYs were announced back in November, as Jon Batiste had the most nominations, with 11. H.E.R., Doja Cat and Justin Bieber are all tied for second, with eight each.

As of now, it’s unclear when a new date for the Grammys will be. Chart Data reported on Tuesday that a date in May or June could be a possibility.
