Two stars from New York City shined bright in 2012 on the mixtape scene with Troy Ave and Cliff Po. Troy Ave shot past a number of rappers going into 2012 expected to be the next big thing. His standout project of this year was Bricks in My Backpack 3, which landed him appearances on MTV.

Meanwhile, Cliff Po traveled a different route, as he released singles and videos throughout the first part of 2012. Late in the summer of 2012, Cliff Po landed a viral hit with “Pass Me Da Green.” The song served as the catalyst for The Pharaoh EP, which came out in November.

While Troy Ave and Cliff Po took different routes, they landed at the same Christmas with the same idea. Hip hop has gotten into the spirit of Christmas, with DMX, Machine Gun Kelly, Jae Millz, and A-Mafia remixing holiday classics. However, the only two rappers putting out Christmas-themed projects are Troy Ave and Cliff Po. Troy Ave has teamed up with DJ Holiday for White Christmas, meanwhile, Cliff Po is delivering Royal Phuckin’ Xmas.

On Christmas Day, both rappers will deliver their free offerings. Two rising hip hop stars from New York City have gotten into the spirit and have dropped off new music for Christmas. Singles from both projects are circulating the internet right now.
