One reason Eminem had to prove himself as a white emcee in the rap game was because of the legacy that came from Vanilla Ice. Emerging in the late 1980s as one of the biggest pop rappers ever, Vanilla Ice was considered competition for MC Hammer. Because he was one of the first successful white rappers, Vanilla Ice formed a stereotype.

While Vanilla Ice may be considered by many as a joke in hip hop, there is a reason samples of his music continue to be featured on commercials. Vanilla Ice made hits and was one of the hottest rappers in the game during his run. A lot has changed and Vanilla Ice has moved on with his career.

But, GQ recently decided to take it back with Vanilla Ice’s hip hop run. Both he and his rap rival, MC Hammer, are credited for their iconic wear. During the April issue of GQ magazine, Vanilla Ice was featured for the influence he had on hip hop style. Despite how it ended, no one can deny what Vanilla Ice brought to the rap game.
