If all of the delays were not bad enough, when Universal Republic finally released Kid Cudi’s rock album, WZRD, it was undershipped. In 2009, Kid Cudi released his debut album, which was commercially and critically acclaimed. Because he had a style of music that was popular, his label did not want Kid Cudi to change his style.

Following the release of Man on The Moon II, Kid Cudi announced he would release a rock album with Dot da Genius. Due to the popularity he built as a rapper, Universal did not want a rock album from Kid Cudi. The situation was comparable to their treatment of Lil Wayne, when he opted to record Rebirth after Tha Carter III.

Unlike Lil Wayne’s situation, Kid Cudi feels slighted even after the album was released, saying the label did not even send him a copy of the album. Angry, Kid Cudi apologized to his fans for the undershipping. Serving as punishment to his label, Kid Cudi said he will delay the recording of his next album, Man on The Moon III.
