Preemo’s “In the Mix” Top Five Songs of the Week (May 12 – May 18, 2013)

PreemoBy Preemo
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

This past week in hip hop has been quite entertaining. Within Hip Hop Vibe, itself, our own DJ Junior took his Artists to Know segment to New York City. Hip hop outside of the movement was full of excitement, as Kanye West apparently has a new album on the way and will be touring with Kim and the new baby.

“Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” star, Rasheeda, is up for Best Female Artist at the 2013 BET Awards, competing against Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks, among others. There is quite a bit to look out for, as Drake is up for thirteen awards. Speaking of Drake, Birdman announced he and Lil Wayne are teaming up with him to bring the Big Tymers back.

Indeed, there is a lot to cover, too much to include all of it in this article. “In the Mix” also happened both on DJ Clue’s Desert Storm Radio and DJ Symphony’s Radio Invasion, check out his Mixtape of the Week. A lot of songs were downloaded and played, but only five could make it onto the list.

But, enough with the stalling, check out the Top Five Songs of the Week.

Listen to “In the Mix’s” Top Five Songs of the Week below:

Jay Sean ft. Rick Ross – “Mars”

Jay Sean continues to show why he is the best R&B export from the UK in recent years with another banger! This time calling in MMG CEO, Ricky Rozay, as they take you on a journey to a woman called “Mars.”

Wu-Tang Clan – “Execution in Autumn”

When the Wu-Tang Clan releases a track, the world stands still, when they announce an album the world goes kamikaze! For my UK heads good news as they will support the release of the record with shows at Manchester O2 Apollo on July 25 and London’s O2 Academy Brixton on July 26.

Juicy J – “Boss Nigga”

Hip Hop Hip Hop Hip Hop! Listen in and listen loud as Juicy J breaks down what the cost is to be the boss. The string sample and the drums keep this one knocking definitely another A+ record from Juicy J.

Kanye West – “New Slaves”

“I’d rather be a dick than a swallower” boasts Kanye….who wouldn’t? Kanye is back to his lyrical best recently and this new jam “New Slaves,” although sounding instrumentally similar to “New God Flow” which features G.O.O.D Music label mate Pusha T, this warrants a place in your crates!

Big Narstie – “Retribution”

Fresh on the back of his cypher with Mac Miller, Big Narstie hooks up with GRM Daily for this video to “Retribution.” UK in the building!
