Preemo’s “In the Mix” Top Five Songs of the Week (March 10 – March 16, 2012)

Preemo 2By Preemo
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Another big week in hip hop has come and gone and there were a lot of good songs that were listened to by both major and indie artists. Because of The Notorious B.I.G.’s death, the decision was made to honor his life and music last week. Now, back to business, the focus is back on the current music that is out.

Due to the work on DJ Clue’s Desert Storm Radio, as one can guess, there is access to so many songs. The job must be done, but it has become increasingly harder to select simply five songs for the week. It takes determination to deliver what is perceived as the top five songs of the week.

In the United Kingdom, there are a lot of trends and a lot of young women spend a lot of their time online playing games. Meanwhile, the young men have jumped head first into hip hop and are making music. The influence of the UK shows itself on the latest weekly countdown, so without any further ado, let’s get into it.

Listen to “In the Mix’s” Top Five Songs of the Week below:

Donny DZ and Citi Boy – “Last Day”

Hailing from London, UK, former S Club 7 star, Citi Boy hooks up with Donny DZ to deliver this scathing blow to emcees coming up in the game, as they state their intentions being “Out for the bread, like a bakery.” With venomous flows and punchlines hitting like an iron right from iron mic, this duo has shown they are ready to flaunt and use their muscles in the big leagues.

Lupe Fiasco – “Jonylah Forever”

The drops set the town as Lupe breaks the breaks with this heartfelt ode. Since Lupe burst onto the scene, he has consistently stayed true to his cause and craft and delivered music for the people to relate. Once more he doesn’t fail so put this on chill out and let Lupe take you on a journey. In the states, Chicago is living up to the Chiraq nickname and the loss of Jonylah Watkins did not go overlooked by the man who brought the world Food & Liquor.

Raekwon ft. Altrina Renee – “86”

The Chef is back and back in a major way off the back of features alongside the whole catalogue of artists on Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music, Raekwon brings us back to the year of my birth with that feel good music. One of my favorite artists since day it’s good to see the Chef going from success to success.

araabMUZIK – “Motion Picture”

In a world where musicians, producers, and emcees are trying to follow in foot steps, araabMuzik comes with a curve ball. With his intense rapid finger movement live shows and ear for that hard beat, araab has taken the move as solo artist putting together his own project and I’m interested to see what’s next from the Dipset MPC killa.

K Koke ft. Rita Ora – “Lay Down Your Weapons”

Roc Nation label mates K Koke and Rita Ora combine again on this top 10 guaranteed “Lay Down Your Weapons.” With more labels Stateside chiming into the talent the UK has to offer, I’m looking forward to hearing more from the Roc camp and K Koke’s movement USG.
