From Jay-Z’s 2003 “retirement” until French Montana’s 2011 mixtape run, there was a lack of New York rappers in the industry. Strong initial showings from Mims and Maino led to small flocks of people touting them as the future. Most, felt Saigon and Papoose would have been the next big things in New York City.

Fabolous has been a wildcard throughout these conversations, as he showed signs of dominance during this period of time. But, a lack of album releases plagued Fabolous in his rise, even after he promised to deliver an album a year. Now, New York City’s hip hop scene boasts stars, such as A$AP Rocky and French Montana.

Recently, Fabolous spoke to Vlad TV about the New York hip hop scene and he said he had to rise and finally take over in New York City. Fabolous also talked about the new energy coming from A$AP Rocky, along with the veteran of Jay-Z. In 2013, Fabolous has big plans of finally establishing himself.
