AZ talks Kendrick Lamar’s “King of New York” line, Nas, and retirement after “Doe or Die 2” with DJ Envy [AUDIO]

AZA legend who doesn’t get as much clout as the others is AZ, another Brooklyn native who debuted in the mid-1990s. In the era of classic debut albums, AZ dropped his critically-acclaimed debut, Doe or Die. The album was released during the height of New York hip hop and a lot of people are wondering exactly what happened.

New York hip hop reached a new low when Kendrick Lamar spazzed on Big Sean’s track called “Control” and he called himself the king of New York. A lot of rappers from the city spoke out, including Fabolous, Uncle Murda, and Papoose, who really stepped up to the plate to deliver. A lot of veterans also had words for it.

DJ Envy also has a show over at Shade 45 and AZ was his guest a few nights ago and he talked with him about Kendrick Lamar. This led into a conversation about who is who in the New York hip hop scene. AZ also spoke on his relationship with Nas and retiring after Doe or Die 2, which is due early next year.
