Last night, “Empire” was on fire, which Lucious (Terrence Howard) pointed out to his staff. Roxanne Ford (Tyra Ferrell) thought she was one step ahead of Lucious. In some ways, she was, but in many others, she was not, which Lucious and Mimi Whiteman (Marisa Tomei) knew.

At the end of last week’s “Empire,” Lucious pulled off a major win by purchasing Apex Radio. This is Sway’s parent company and the biggest urban radio outlet. The purchase made it possible for Lucious to block Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Hakeem’s (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray).

Mother and son started their own label since Lucious and Jamal (Jussie Smollett) basically froze them out at Empire. Lucious got his digs in by signing Valentina (Becky G) from under Hakeem and purchasing the radio station. This was in retaliation for them ruining the Pitbull concert.

This week, the Lyon family came together against the FBI that raided Lucious’ office and home and Cookie’s office, presenting a united front as per Thirsty’s (Andre Royo) request. While Cookie and Andre (Trai Byers) had reservations about Thirsty, they soon learned he comes through, especially Andre. Anika (Grace Gealey), meanwhile, fought to get in good with Cookie to no avail.

Jamal and Hakeem ended their beef for the millionth time to come together for the “Ain’t About The Money” music video, but that ended up a disaster. While shooting the video, Jamal received his portrait from the photographer that flirted with him throughout the episode, angering Michael (Rafael de la Fuente). Lucious’ obsession over the portrait set Hakeem off, prompting Lucious to call him a “mama’s boy.”

Mama Cookie, meanwhile, was picked up by Roxanne Ford (Ferrell) and she threatened to send the Cookie Monster back to prison if she did not give her dirt on Lucious. She, like Hakeem, asked if Lucious killed Bunkie, but Cookie lied and said she did not know. But, she did give Ford enough info to block Lucious’ Apex Radio deal, essentially saving her new label, but making her an even bigger snitch bitch in the process.

There was another fistfight between Hakeem and Jamal, where baby brother almost hit Jamal with a bat before storming off. By the time Cookie got back, the video shoot was over and Anika was there, prompting her to tell her former rival/potential ally to buzz off. Meanwhile, Andre decided to prove his worth to Lucious by digging up Vernon’s (Malik Yoba) corpse to show he killed him, thus keeping Lucious a free man.

When Andre went off to find Vernon’s body, Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) went with him, digging while pregnant with their baby boy. As they were digging, Rhonda flipped out, noticing someone watching them and it was none other than Lucious and Thirsty. Together, they dug up Vernon’s body, which Thirsty took and Lucious gave to Roxanne Ford as a present for targeting him, placing it in the passenger’s side of her car.

For his efforts, Andre was reinstated as CFO of Empire.
