Almost exactly twenty-four hours ago, the photo to the left hit the internet and hip hop forever changed. If anyone has followed the interviews over the years from both Jay-Z and Damon Dash, it’s clear the two never stopped being friends. This has not stopped the media from continuing to push a Jay-Z/Damon Dash feud.
As recent as his Elliott Wilson interview, Jay-Z said he never had beef with Damon Dash and often mentioned that on his albums. Circa Kingdom Come, Damon Dash was interviewed about Jay-Z’s “Lost One” and he said he made too much money with his former partner to beef. Jay-Z echoed similar sentiments in his interviews.
Yet and still, when Shaheem Reid uploaded the photos of Jay-Z and Damon Dash, several websites ran with the headline “Jay-Z and Damon Dash squash beef.” Through it all, both said if they ran into each other, it would be all love. When they met, both men lived up to their word and they were grown men about the situation.
Outside of the people declaring the “beef” dead, there is a lot of speculation going on. Jay-Z has made a lot of business moves behind the scenes. In an effort to relaunch Roc-A-Fella Records, Jay-Z returned to Def Jam and then this encounter with Damon Dash occurred, which is driving the speculation. If Jay-Z came back to Roc-A-Fella Records, his mission is to complete the super label he discussed back in 2007 and who else to run that company, aside from Damon Dash.
