In America, racist white cops sadly somehow always win no matter what and can get away with anything, including shooting unarmed black people This is the case with former Dallas police officer, 31-year-old Amber Guyger, who shot 26-year-old Botham Jean in his home after she thought she was in her own on September 6, 2018. She was found guilty of murder yesterday but today, only received a 10-year prison sentence. When she originally shot him, he was sitting down and eating ice cream in his apartment.
The Dallas County jury reached a unanimous decision before 4 p.m. after deliberating for over an hour, according to ABC News. Family members and friends of Jean, Guyger’s relatives and former colleagues in the Dallas Police Department all spoke before the ruling. The maximum sentence for Guyger was 5-99 years.
Dallas County Assistant District Attorney LaQuita Long even said to the jury that the sentence should not be lower than 28 years. Guyger’s defense lawyer Toby Shook tried to come up with all the excuses in the world as he said she’s made a “series of horrible mistakes” that “caused her to pull that trigger in an instant, an instant she’ll have to live with the rest of her life.”
Throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, prosecutors showed to the jury racist texts and social media posts by Guyger. Police colleagues of hers not so surprisingly said she was an “outstanding police officer.” On January 15, 2018, she worked a Martin Luther King Jr Day parade she sent a text message to another officer saying “When does this end lol. When MLK is dead… oh wait…”Just push them… or spray your pepper spray in that general area.” (In regards to crowd control)
This is one of the reasons why there’s no reason to stand during the national anthem anymore. This country always supports white supremacists like Guyger being a free woman after killing an unarmed black man. This country never supported minorities. It truly is disgusting. Black people get 10 years for weed. This ruling is horrific. This is America.
