YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Wreckx-N-Effect – “Rump Shaker”

During the summer of 1992, which now predates the average rap star, post-2010, there were a lot of big records. Back then, Teddy Riley was making his impression felt, on the game. A few years before, he began working with Wreckx-N-Effect, a rising group from his native Harlem.

What people probably didn’t know is Wreckx-N-Effect put in a lot of work before “Rump Shaker” came out. Hard or Smooth was actually their second album, following their 1989 self-titled album. The instrumental of “Rump Shaker” propelled them to number two.

Had it not been for Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” the group would have probably topped Billboard. Revisiting one of the greatest summers ever, this week’s Wednesday Throwback takes it back. “Rump Shaker” is the Wednesday Throwback, and RIP to Brandon Mitchell.
