YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Toni Braxton – “You’re Makin’ Me High”

During the weekend, Toni Braxton was honored with the Legend Award at the Soul Train Awards. On the red carpet, Hip-HopVibe.com spoke with the likes of Kehlani and Elise Neal about Toni’s legacy. During the interview with Elise Neal, she named her favorite Toni song.

Elise Neal said “You’re Makin’ Me High” was her favorite Toni Braxton song and it definitely made the team make a decision. With this week’s throwback, the goal was to incorporate either SWV or Toni Braxton. In the end, Toni was the decision.

By 1996, Toni Braxton established herself as a star, but fans wanted a second album, as it had been three years. There was no sophomore slump, as Toni Braxton came with “You’re Makin’ Me High,” as the lead single, topping Billboard Hot 100, and boasting 1990s stars, Vivica A. Fox, Tisha Campbell, and Erika Alexander as celebrity cameos, when videos had big cameos. This made the perfect Wednesday Throwback choice, Toni’s lead single from Secrets.
