Mixtape Review: Rico Love – “I Sin”

I SinBy Justin Jamandre

This week, Rico Love released his I Sin mixtape, which has made a strong impact on the game. The first and second songs contradict each other. First Rico Love belittles those who “spend their money on a bitch” then turns around and rhymes about spending 100k on a female on the second song.

The songs are literally next to each other too. He goes from money over bitches to 100k on a female without even putting another song in between. At least Big K.R.I.T. had a cool verse on the first track, “Spend It,” which was a pretty dope track.

What Rico gets “love” for is his ability and talent in singing and structuring songs. Not only that but he also has a clean flow when it comes to rapping. He may not be the most lyrical artist, but his delivery and double timing is real dope. The fourth song “Go with the flow” shows off his skill in delivery.

“Bankroll” was a really dope track, kind of went in with a Drake flow on that one. The beat is definitely unique and something that could fit Drake, with him rhyming over too. “Japanese Denim” was a fresh track, definitely a song for the strip club or something to bang while rolling up to a party. “He Got Money” had a decent flow, but it wasn’t that impressive, but the hook was real dope though; Rico gets props for that.

Track nine “Coldest” was another one that was dope. That joint is one to play if a female is over at at the crib and conversation is difficult to come by, that song could do all of the talking. Rico Love should definitely do more songs with Kevin Gates, they sound tight when they’re on the same track. It’s like Kevin Gates brings out the best in Rico’s flow. The track “Sick” was indeed sick and one that the people should love.

The last track, “Freak No More,” was the classiest joint on this mixtape. Definitely some grown folks music, but this mixtape was overall unimpressive. Rico Love it a talented songwriter and producer, but the project stuck out mainly for the beats and the features. It just left a little more to be desired, but it was an overall good body of work.
