Mixtape Review: B.o.B. – “No Genre 2”

No Genre Vol. 2By Teddy D
Hip Hop Vibe Writer

B.o.B. is back in the building with his latest mixtape, entitled No Genre 2, a sequel to his original mixtape release. The original mixtape was released four years ago, when he was ranked ninth on MTV’s “Hottest MC in the Game” list. Four years later, quite a bit has changed with B.o.B., but the concept remains the same.

From the first track called “Mission Statement,” B.o.B hits the listener with the slick and powerful punchlines in which the rapper/rock-star shows off his lyricist skills. He also shows off his story telling, picture painting skills in the song, “Many Rivers,” where he attempts to really reach out to his audience and spread his personal message.

This mixtape does not come up short when it comes to the party tracks like “Lambo” with Kevin Gates and Jake Lambo, “Get Right” with Mike Fresh, and “Drunk AF” with and produced by Ty Dolla $ign. If not anything else, B.o.B. has always made sure he has a party anthem. This trend continues on No Genre 2, which is very expansive.

In No Genre 2, B.o.B doesn’t leave the ladies hanging with songs like “Lean On Me” with Victoria Monet, and “Swing My Way” with Sevyn Streeter. Both of these songs have very catchy hooks that will have the female fans singing in the car at the top of their lungs. Also, with “Swing My Way” fans can really vibe with it, just like it was the original “Shawty Swing My Way” by K.P & Envyi released in 1998, so this project can make people who are B.o.B. fans or not just vibe out to his music for a while.

Hip Hop Vibe’s Rating: 8/10
