Hip Hop Vibe’s TV Series of the Year: “Power” season three

All 50 Cent shenanigans aside, “Power” is the best show on television, hands down. Airing on Starz, the premium network, “Power” is driving many new viewers to the channel. This year, their app was among the most-downloaded apps out there.

Many people were interested in seeing what happened after Kanan (50 Cent) died. Things looked a little too good to be true, as Ghost (Omari Hardwick) made the transition into being the man he wanted to be. His life as James “Jamie” St. Patrick was officially started.

Living the life he always wanted with Angela (Lela Loren) finally by his side, Ghost had it all. Meanwhile, Tasha (Naturi Naughton) was adjusting to life without Ghost, so he really had it all. But, Tommy (Joseph Sikora) and Lobos (Enrique Muricano) were different stories.

Even there, Ghost seemed poised to win after Tommy killed Holly (Lucy Walters).

Tommy kills Holly

Ordered by Lobos to kill Ghost, Tommy was nervous about doing so. Always willing to do whatever to win, Holly took matters into her own hands, which Tommy flipped out about when he learned what she did. The hit she ordered on Ghost with the Jamaicans was stopped by Milan (Callan Mulvey), who ended up being a bigger enemy down the road.

However, Tommy and Holly got into a huge argument over Ghost, which brought out his violent side. In a fit of rage, Tommy choked Holly to death, which led to him turning to Ghost for help. While they were at it, they also took Lobos out, which was a difficult task that became Ghost’s undoing for the remainder of “Power” season three, which will be felt into season four.

Kanan kidnaps Tariq

With Ghost focusing on building the perfect life, he made the big mistake and took his focus off home. Instead, he was focused on being with Angela, leaving Tasha with the kids. Immediately, Tariq (Michael Rainey, Jr.) began acting out, first venting his frustrations to Tommy.

Ghost put Dre (Rotimi) in charge of the family, essentially replacing Shawn (Sinqua Walls). While Dre didn’t end up sleeping with Tasha, a not-so-dead Kanan did come to collect with Dre. Despite all of Ghost’s requests for Dre to tell what was bothering him, he kept him in the dark about Kanan and Tariq paid the price.

Every mistake Ghost made led up to Kanan finally kidnapping Tariq with the plan being to kill him. Anyone who thinks Tariq survives, think of the position Shawn was in, a key character, plus Kanan’s own son, and he died.

Angela arrests Ghost

In the end, Ghost could not be everywhere at once and he couldn’t undo what he did. Despite him and Tasha having a strong makeup sex scene, Ghost’s heart was still with Angela. But, him killing Lobos using Angela’s info has earned Ghost an enemy for life, despite her still loving him.

Ghost wasn’t exactly loyal to Tommy and, despite Tommy helping him kill Milan, he wasn’t loyal to Ghost. After all of his fighting to go legit and not run drugs in his clubs, drugs will be run in his clubs via Tommy and not Milan. On top of it all, Ghost was arrested by Angela.

“Power” is the show that had people waiting all summer long and it ends on a cliffhanger. Many shows aired in 2016, but with Ghost being behind bars, his son kidnapped by his not-so-dead worst enemy, his best friend betraying him, and the love of his life arresting him, “Power” season four cannot get here fast enough.

“Power” is Hip Hop Vibe’s TV series of the year.
