Album Review: Azealia Banks – “Broke With Expensive Taste”

Azealia Banks is making noise across the world and this time it is solely based around her music. The Harlem emcee has finally released her debut album, Broke with Expensive Taste. Miss Banks, whom is no newbie to the rap game, released her groundbreaking jam “212” featuring Lazy Jay back in 2011. She followed this up with her mixtape Fantasea.

It is no surprise that Azealia Banks holds anything back from her fans or the world, because she has had many hip hop feuds with artists such as T.I. and Tiny, Iggy Azalea, ASAP Rocky, Jim Jones, and many others. Banks also has had some trouble along the way as her debut album, Broke with Expensive Taste, faced many delays. Finally, her album has been signed, sealed, and delivered to all of her fans.

After literally begging her label, Universal Music Group, to release her, she went the independent route and continued to pursue her music. She is also known for hits like “ATM Jam” featuring legendary producer and hitmaker Pharrell, “Liqourice”, “Van Vogue”, “1991”, and her own remix of “Harlem Shake.” The Harlem native is a mixture of Eve and Foxy Brown, so she is bound to give music lovers true lyricism.

A different sound, a sense of sex appeal, and one that always stays true to herself. Broke with an Expensive Taste is a 16-track album consists of anthems such as “Heavy Metal & Reflective”, “BBD,” and “Yung Rapunxel,” and production by Lone, Lazy Jay and M.J. Cole. This album consists of mid tempo tracks, that are wild, fun, and out of this world. This album is bound to be one of the best albums of the year.
