In 2020, many lessons were taught about race, race relations, privilege, and inequality. Whether people admit it, or not, they discovered a lot was wrong with society. Some places are making efforts to change.
The city of Boston has a history of racism, despite being considered a liberal bastion. However, like most other cities, and institutions, Boston is making changes. Boston Public Schools’ superintendent, Brenda Cassellius, recommended a one year enrollment suspension of the Advanced Work Class.
Boston Public Schools’ superintendent, Brenda Cassellius, has recommended a suspension, for one year, of enrollment in the Advanced Work Class. Much of this is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but also due to racial inequality. Over 70% of the students enrolled in the program are White and Asian, despite 80% of the district’s students being Black and Hispanic.
