Gucci Mane and Jeezy had been feuding for 15 years in 2020 with no truce in sight. It all started over the ownership to their collab hit single. “Icy” in 2005. That record ended up on Gucci’s debut studio album, “Trap House.” That summer, Jeezy also put a hit on Gucci which resulted in Gucci shooting and killing one of his friends.
Jeezy and Gucci went on to do a Verzuz together at Magic City in Atlanta last November. There was definitely some tension in the room but in the end, the two showed signs of respect. They even held a Verzuz afterparty event together at Compound in Atlanta.
Zaytoven, the producer of Icy, recently spoke with HotNewHipHop.com and one of the topics was Gucci and Jeezy. He revealed that Gucci was the one that put him on to Jeezy’s music. Zay explained how he was so impressed by Jeezy’s music that he admitted that nobody was harder than him at the time, with the exemption of Gucci.
“Gucci was a fan first. He was the one who told me, ‘Man, Jeezy so hard. He made me wanna do a song with him. He’s the hardest.’ And I’m like, okay, bet. Like, he put me on to Jeezy.”
“I love Jeezy. I remember going to listen to Jeezy and I’m like, ‘boy, ain’t nobody harder than this man right here. He’s super hard.’ But at the same time, we’ll go against that. Ain’t nobody harder than Gucci. And I feel like that’s how it was back when MC Eiht and Quik was battling, and that’s what made me love it.”
Hopefully, fans can finally get more collabs between Gucci and Gucci eventually. The only other record they did together besides Icy was Gucci’s “Black Tee” remix that same year.
