Gregory Sierra has died at the age of 83; Actor was best-known as ‘Julio,’ on “Sanford & Son,” and ‘Chano,’ on “Barney Miller”

Early this morning, news broke of yet another celebrity death. This one comes from the “Sanford & Son” camp, barely two years after Nathaniel Taylor died. Now, the fans have learned of the loss of Julio.

Real name Gregory Sierra, he was a mildly popular actor, in the 1970s and 1980s. After “Sanford & Son,” Sierra went onto play in “Barney Miller.” From there, he’s had movie roles, and sitcom appearances.

While news of Gregory Sierra’s death hit the news, this morning, he actually died four weeks ago. The veteran actor died, on January 4. There was no cause of death mentioned, but he was 83 years old, dying weeks before his 84th birthday.
