R. Kelly Denied Bail Again in Brooklyn Sex Trafficking Case

R. Kelly has been making headlines lately after being attacked by an inmate at the Chicago prison he’s being incarcerated at. This was reportedly due to the inmate being fed up with the facility being under lock down multiple times due to pro-Kelly supporters being outside. The R&B legend has now been denied again for a request for bond in his sex trafficking case in Brooklyn, according to Page Six.

Kelly is still being looked at as a danger to the community and that is a big factor in this latest decision. He is also being labeled as a flight risk. Prior to this decision, Kelly had been denied bail three times.

“We perceive no clear error in the district court’s determination,” said the panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals Second Circuit. “The government has demonstrated by clear and convincing evidence that Kelly presents a risk of danger to the community.”

Kelly’s attorney, Steven Greenberg, has since expressed his disappointment in the latest decision to not let Kelly have an opportunity to be freed. He believes that this decision will have a significant impact on a fair trial.

“We’re tremendously disappointed,” Greenberg said. “We believe that there’s a double standard applied to R. Kelly, that he absolutely should be released and that there is zero chance that he can have a fair trial if he is not.”

Kelly is being investigated for sex crimes in Minnesota, New York, and his home state of Illinois. He has been incarcerated since last summer. His downfall began when Lifetime aired the ‘Surviving R. Kelly‘ docuseries in January of 2019.
