The VMAs are currently underway from New York City as this is a very completely different experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony was supposed to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn but that plan was changed. The original plan was to have “limited to no audience” as well.

One of the awards handed out now was for “Video For Good.” The winner is H.E.R. for her “I Can’t Breathe” record that was released in June. This single discussed the current state of America in regards to racism and police brutality. H.E.R. was very passionate on I Can’t Breathe and it has since been recognized as a powerful piece of music during the movement.

Following the announcement of the award, H.E.R. appeared in a video from home discussing the record and it’s importance. She was also nominated tonight for “Best R&B” for her 2019 “Slide” single featuring YG. Check out the music video for I Can’t Breathe below.
