Today, it was reported byTMZ that R. Kelly was attacked by an inmate on Wednesday at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago where he is incarcerated. This started allegedly due to the inmate being fed up about the lock downs that the facility had due to the anti-Kelly protests outside. Kelly suffered only minor injuries.
Now, it seems that precautions are being taken to protect Kelly from any more incidents such as this. According to Page Six, he has been placed in solitary confinement. Kelly’s attorney, Steven Greenberg, said that would be the onto place where he would be protected. He added that there are lock downs every time the facility is notified of a protest.
“When they do this, inmates don’t get their commissary, they don’t get their shower, stuff like that and since they’re fairly sporadic anyway, they get upset. So they’re penalizing everyone in the facility because people are protesting in support of Kelly.”
“I’m still very concerned because sure this time the guards were able to quickly stop something from happening but what happens if someone goes in his cell with a shank or something like that? Or the guards are busy doing something else?”
Greenberg is worried about a possible second incident relating to this so it seems that solitary confinement was the only route. Kelly has been incarcerated since last summer after being arrested on sex abuse charges with minors. He is supposed to have trials in Chicago and Brooklyn later this year.
