The 2020 VMAs are set to go down next week in New York City as stars such as The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Roddy Ricch, J Balvin, BTS, and Lady Gaga are all set to perform. The show was initially set to take place inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn with limited to no audience after New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, gave the green light. This would end up not being the plan as they will just have performances across all of NYC’s boroughs. A soundstage will also be in Los Angeles.
The VMAs are now one week away and there are some changes to the lineup of performers. According to Variety, J Balvin and Roddy Ricch will not be performing as planned. A source pointed out to the outlet that there are always last-minute changes with awards show and this year is also different due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Unfortunately, J Balvin and Roddy Ricch are no longer performing,” said a source close to the show to Variety. “As with every awards show, there are always last-minute talent changes. That said, this year has more logistical hurdles than most and the health and safety of our employees and partners is of the utmost importance.”
Roddy is nominated for three VMA awards which include best Hip-Hop Video, Best Song and PUSH Best New Artist. J Balvin is nominated for four as they are for Best Collaboration and the other three being for Best Latin Video.
