Protests continue to grow in numbers all across America due to the death of unarmed black man, George Floyd, by former Minneapolis PD officer, Derek Chauvin, earlier this week. Chauvin was hit with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges as his bail is set at $500,000.

Many rightfully feel that Chauvin should’ve gotten first-degree charges due to him intentionally killing Floyd as he had his knee on his neck for almost nine minutes. Two other officers were also holding him down. While we await for more justice in this case, Chauvin has been in custody since yesterday and is now reportedly on suicide watch, according to TMZ. This also comes after his wife said she wants to divorce him.

A camera has reportedly been installed in Chauvin’s cell and he is checked on every 15 minutes. He is being held at Ramsey County Jail in St. Paul, MN. When he initially arrived at this jail, he underwent a unclothed body search to be checked for contraband. The cell he was placed in was a single cell in the special wing of the jail that is solely for inmates in high-profile cases.

In Chauvin’s cell, he is in isolation. While it’s not been ruled that he is actually suicidal, the section of the jail he is located has the protocols of 15-minute checks of inmates. Here, Chauvin is also required to be here 23 hours a day with one hour of recreational time.
