On April 10, Tory Lanez released the third installment of his ‘The New Toronto’ mixtape series. The original project was released back in 2015. On third, it’s led by the singles “Who Needs Love,” “Do The Most,” and “Broke in a Minute.” The Canadian star built plenty of momentum leading up to The New Toronto 3’s release as he was buzzing on social media due to his “Quarantine Radio” show that he does on Instagram Live.

The New Toronto 3 featured other hot records as well such as “Stupid Again,” “Penthouse Red,” “10 F*cks” featuring Mansa, “Back In Business,” and “Dope Boy’s Diary.” The entire project was the talk of social media the night it was released and now, its numbers are talking as well.

The New Toronto 3 has now hit No. 1 on the Billboard‘s Top Rap Albums chart. It sold 64,000 equivalent album units for this week and it marks Tory’s third No. 1 rap album. The other two were his 2016 debut album ‘I Told You‘ and 2018’s ‘Love Me Now?’

“It’s a mixtape, I don’t even know how!” said Tory to Billboard. “I didn’t promote it. I put it the cover to it like a week before it came out. I thought it was gonna sell like 10,000.”

The New Toronto 3 is also currently at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts as well behind The Weeknd’s fourth studio album, ‘After Hours.’ It’s definitely one of the best releases of 2020 so far and is another huge win for Toronto. The Weeknd is winning big with After Hours as it’s already platinum, Drake has released songs such as “When To Say When,” “Chicago Freestyle,” and his latest dance single which became the top song in the country, “Toosie Slide.” Back in January, fans also loved his appearance on Future’s “Life Is Good” single which is now certified 3x platinum by the RIAA.
