A few days ago, Megan Thee Stallion took to Instagram Live to say that 1501 Certified Entertainment and their CEO, Carl Crawford, wouldn’t let her release any music. She said when she signed with the label at 20-years-old. At the time, she didn’t understand the terminology in the contract and denied not reading it. She went on to claim how she’s being done wrong and people are greedy in the industry.
Megan is also suing the label for $1 million in damages. In addition, a judge has also granted her a temporary restraining order against them so she can release her new music. In a new interview with Billboard though, Crawford is calling BS on all of the Houston rapper’s claims. Crawford says fame and social media followers has clouded Megan’s head.
“She just has so many holes in her story, and it’s almost on some delusional type stuff. The bubble of Hollywood and her eight million followers has really clouded her head, because the stuff that she’s saying is not true. It’s a whole lie,” he said. He explained that “everybody in the industry” is aware of Jay-Z and Roc Nation’s tactics. “they come in, the find the smallest things wrong with the problem — because there weren’t any problems before she left — and then she says that I didn’t want to negotiate?”
As far as Crawford supposedly refusing to renegotiate the contract, he claimed that Megan’s mother and T Farris drew it up. Crawford also ended up saying he wanted to get her out of the 1501 contract so she could get with Roc Nation on the management deal anyway. It‘s a 60-40 split with her and 1501 as Megan received parts of her masters the “first time.” Megan has since shockingly generated $7 million for the label but has only received $15,000 of it.
Crawford also doubted that Jay Z would do the same with Megan on her masters in her first deal with Roc Nation. After Megan started getting over $100,000 for performances, Crawford added that she started to not pay 1501 anymore when the deal with Jay was completed. On Sunday, Crawford also posted a photo with J. Prince and praised him for his loyalty unlike Megan.
When Megan was younger, she should’ve definitely taken a closer look at the contract she signed and got lawyers to do the same as well. Since we officially have both sides to the story, it’ll be interesting to see how Megan responds.
