It’s been over a week since the tragic murder of rising Brooklyn rapper, Pop Smoke. He was shot and killed in a Hollywood Hills, CA home around 4:30am as four men with masks and guns reportedly went inside the home and shot him. This is also after Smoke accidentally posted the address to his location which was displayed on a bag.
Smoke’s family had a service at a Brooklyn church last Sunday in his honor but it wasn’t the funeral. Those arrangements are still being made. They have now released a statement regarding his passing though, per HotNewHipHop.
“The family of Bashar ‘Pop Smoke’ Jackson would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone for your support,” the statement reads. “Every prayer, call, and act of kindness is deeply appreciated as we mourn the loss of our son, brother and friend. Brooklyn knew him as Bashar. He was educated and nurtured in Brooklyn and his rise to fame all developed from the place he proudly represented. Within the last year, his extraordinary giftedness was revealed to the world, introducing Pop Smoke. Unfortunately, there are no public details available regarding the murder of our loved one. We ask for respect and responsible reporting during this critical time. Inaccurate reports only add unnecessary pain to a grieving family.”
There has been different speculation about Smoke’s murder such as his childhood friend, Mike Dee setting him up. That has since been denied by him as he expressed his grief on social media as he lost his best friend. TMZ also reported that police believe that Smoke was targeted and that this wasn’t the typical home invasion robbery.
