Yesterday, rising Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke was shot and killed in a Hollywood Hills home that is owned by Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Teddi Mellencamp and her husband Edwin Arroyave. Around 4:30am PT, four men snuck around the back of the luxury home. They ended up firing gun shots off at Smoke where he was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was pronounced dead.
Police have since said none of the suspects are in custody but are now labeling this as a targeted hit and not a robbery, according to TMZ. This is after Smoke posted a bag with the home’s address on it on Instagram which led to the belief that he was an easy target for the shooters.
Authorities said after viewing surveillance footage of the suspects entering the home, one of the shooters clearly wanted to take Smoke out and not run off with the bag or any items that was displayed on social media. Smoke’s childhood friend, Mike Dee, has since cleared his name on IG as many thought he set him up. Dee expressed his grief and posted photos of the two growing up.
Smoke broke out as a star in 2019 with his hit single “Welcome To The Party” and his debut mixtape, “Meet The Woo” which also contained another fan-favorite “Dior” record. This month, he released the Meet The Woo sequel which contained the the buzzing single “Christopher Walking.”
This situation may have been both a targeted hit and robbery considering the fact that Smoke’s address was displayed on social media along with his new fame. Prayers and condolences go out to his friends and family.
