ABC News Correspondent Matt Gutman Suspended After Inaccurately Reporting All of Kobe’s Four Kids were on the Helicopter When it Went Down

In the wake of the the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and his second oldest daughter Gigi, there’s been a lot of fake information being reported. One would think these kinds of erroneous mistakes would come from unreliable two-bit news platforms. However that hasn’t been the case when it came to the immediate reporting of Kobe Bryant and his horrific death.

ABC chief national correspondent Matt Gutman was on-air when he falsely reported that all of Kobe’s four children were on board the helicopter when it went down. It all happened so fast, but this was a gross misrepresentation of journalistic reporting. For that, ABC News has suspended Gutman. They did not disclose how long the suspension would be.

“Reporting the facts accurately is the cornerstone of our journalism,” ABC News said in a statement. “As he acknowledged on Sunday, Matt Gutman’s initial reporting was not accurate and failed to meet our editorial standards.”

Later that Sunday, Gutman issued an apology on his Twitter

“Today I inaccurately reported it was believed that four of Kobe Bryant’s children were on board that flight. That is incorrect. I apologize to Kobe’s family, friends, and our viewers.”
