R. Kelly is still in prison due to federal sex charges involving minors over three decades. These crimes have been committed in New York, Minnesota, and his home state of Illinois. He will stand trial this year as Lifetime also aired part two of the docuseries ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ which exposes his crimes.
Kelly has also been dealing with his girlfriends, Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary fighting each other in his Trump Tower condo in Chicago this month. Clary has since left and reunited with her family.
Prior to 2019 ending, prosecutors said that Kelly bribed an official back in 1994 to get a legal ID for Aaliyah. This was in order to marry her. She was only 15 at the time.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Kelly reportedly married Aaliyah so she wouldn’t testify against him in court. He would’ve been charged for having sex with a minor. This marriage went on to be annulled by her parents a year later.
“As early as 1994, the defendant took steps to prevent law enforcement from discovering and investigating his crime,” said prosecutors.” As alleged in the EDNY indictment, in August 1994, the defendant and others bribed a government employee to create false identification for Jane Doe #1. Witnesses have advised the government that the defendant engaged in this bribery scheme to obtain a marriage license so he could quickly and secretly marry Jane Doe #1 to avoid criminal charges for engaging in a sexual relationship with Jane Doe #1, who was a minor at the time.”
Kelly will most likely be in prison for a very, very long time. He’s always had a problem messing with young girls and it all started with Aaliyah.
