In the late 2000s, until the late 2010s, the Atlanta Hawks were a consistent playoff team. Their core of Al Horford, Joe Johnson, and Josh Smith made them an annual playoff team. However, they always lost in the first or second round.

Joe Johnson was traded, in 2012, but the Hawks continued to hold a playoff spot. In the 2014-15 season, the Hawks capitalized on the upheaval of the East, winning 60 games. Going to the Conference Finals, they lost to LeBron’s Cavs, effectively rebuilding.

Trae Young arrived, after the 60-win Hawks squad was slowly dismantled, last making the playoffs in 2017. Bottoming out, Young was selected as their future franchise player. While the Hawks are still struggling, Young, known for being stoic, was selected as an All-Star starter, crying, and getting a huge response from fans on Twitter, mostly over the Hawks’ struggling record.
