Lil Nas X had a year for the ages in 2019. The Atlanta native said right before his smash country/rap hit “Old Town Road” blew up, his stepmom told him to get a job and everything changed from that point. There was a bit of controversy once it charted on Billboard as it got taken off due to it not being labeled as a real country song according to critics. Nas X called checkmate though after he enlisted country legend Billy Ray Cyrus on the remix and it became the top song in the nation.

Nas X’s Old Town Road remix became the longest-charting No.1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 as it broke Mariah Carey’s and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” from 1995 last summer. Old Town Road broke the record at 17 weeks and went on to finish at 19 prior to 18-year-old pop star Billie Eilish taking over the top spot.

Old Town Road has now reached another amazing accolade as this time, it is the fastest song in this century to be certified 11x platinum in the U.S, according to Chart Data. Nas X’s other 2019 hit, “Panini,” is also doing very well as it sits at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Old Town Road currently stands at No. 46 Both tracks appeared on his debut EP, “7,” last summer.

Old Town Road should continue to shatter more records along the way. It’ll be interesting to see what hits Nas X will create in 2020 and how long his longevity in the industry will be. Back in September, he said he would be taking a break from music so hopefully, he is ready to continue his momentum for the new year.
