Colin Kaepernick made a huge statement in August of 2016 by kneeling during an NFL preseason game while he was with the San Francisco 49ers in order to protest racism and police brutality in America. These continue to be issues in America today with police getting paid time off when they’re killing unarmed black people and Donald Trump’s MAGA base spewing their hate to minorities of all types.
A year ago around this time, Colin Kaepernick and Nike released a campaign with the slogan “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.” Kaepernick had a $50 million Nike deal on the table and had been working with them for a while under the radar. He and the major sports brand also released their “Dream Crazy” commercial. The ad contained powerful messages and is still enjoyable to watch. Now, it’s officially an Emmy award-winner, according to TMZ Sports.
Kaepernick narrated the commercial as he motivated people to be just as great as athletes shown in it such as Serena Williams, Odell Beckham Jr, and LeBron James. He also sent the message of to keep striving no matter what obstacles are in the way.
Kaepernick is still being blackballed by the NFL for kneeling to protest racism and police brutality. He and former 49ers teammate Eric Reid reached a settlement with the league for this earlier this year. Reid has been back in the NFL with the Panthers since last fall but Kaepernick is still waiting on his call. He’s definitely better than every backup quarterback in the league and can start on some teams as well.
Kaepernick has since been doing great things in local communities with his Know Your Rights Camp. Check out his commercial with Nike below.
