Jay Z has gotten a good amount of criticism for his Roc Nation partnership with the NFL this week. He’s also looking to become a part owner of a team soon as well. The criticism is due to partnering with the league even though they’re still blackballing Colin Kaepernick just for kneeling to protest racism and police brutality in America.
We’re finally starting to get the hip-hop community to weigh in on the issue and Freddie Gibbs is now speaking out. He flat out said “F*ck Colin Kaepernick” in support of Jay Z. Gibbs mentioned Kaepernick’s settlement with the NFL and that he shouldn’t be speaking out. He went on to call anyone hating on Jay “crabs.”
Gibbs does have a point that it’s not right to hate on Hov for having a seat at the table. He can definitely try to bring social change by meeting with the league and letting them know how important it is. Where Gibbs is wrong is that you don’t need to bash Kaepernick to uplift Jay Z. Kaep brought awareness to crucial issues that we see everyday in America with racism and police brutality by taking that knee. Gibbs should be giving props to both Kaep and Jay for trying to bring change.
