The trendy, self empowered phrase “Hot Girl Summer” curated by Houston rapper, Megan Thee Stallion has just received its own anthem!
Her single “Cash Shit,” not only blasted her into mainstream stardom earlier this year, but opened the floodgates to the latest and hottest trend phrase. The song included the lyric “real hot girl shit” and almost overnight her fans turned it into “Hot Girl Summer” kicking off a movement of women showcasing unapologetic self love. It quickly took the world by storm with captioned thirst traps.
Now that I’ve provided some background as to where the phrase comes from, we finally got the “Hot Girl Summer” anthem featuring some of Hip-hop’s fan favorites, Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. The featured artwork illustrates Megan and Nicki straddling what looks like a bottle of Henny. The summer banger that we all need and deserve is finally here after weeks of hype and a delayed release. The track boasts production by Juicy J and the guest vocals ride the sampled beat of City Girls’ 2018 track “Act Up”.
In a recent interview with The Root, Hot Girl Meg explains the concept: “It’s just basically about women — and men — just being unapologetically them, just having a good-ass time, hyping up your friends, doing you, not giving a damn about what nobody got to say about it. You definitely have to be a person that can be the life of the party and, y’know, just a bad bitch.”
