[RECAP] COMPLEXCON Meets Chicago: Day 1

By Tamantha Hip-HopVibe.com Staff Writer

ComplexCon took over Chicago and opened their festival weekend with a bang! From the pop up shops, panel discussions, performances, and overall scene, ComplexCon has made it’s mark on Chicago culture.

Champion was nice enough to give us a VIP tour of their pop up shop. We were one the first to see their new Tank sneaker. Their booth hosted a customization station with live-screen printing and featured the Knickerbocker Knitting Collection, which was only available at ComplexCon.

BJ The Chicago Kid was nice enough to sit with us for an interview at the 83 Futures activation booth. 83 Futures is a new brand that premiered at ComplexCon Chicago. The brand is so exclusive, that you can only get access to it if you’re an organ donor. Yes, you read that right. A single donor can save 8 lives with organs and heal 75 more with tissues. That’s 83 Futures.

We stopped by the PUMA activation and was able to witness an epic dunk contest take place on their built court. The judges included A Boogie, WNBA star Katie Lou Samuelson, and NBA star Deandre Ayton. Jumping Joe took home the $15,000 cash prize as he wowed judges with his perfect-score final round dunk.

PUMA probably had one of the most popular murals in the entire building. A mural of the late, great Nipsey Hussle graced their activation. It included lyrics from his hit song “Racks in the Middle” where he talks about his partnership with PUMA.

Wale, Don C, and NBA legend, Allen Iverson took over the ‘Complex Current’ stage to discuss the how sneakers impacted hip-hop. The room was completely packed and some fans had to even catch the panel in a standing only section.

Grammy-award winning superstar, Ella Mai, hit the Pigeons & Planes stage, presented by ‘Dear White People,’ and serenaded the crowd with her hit singles.

If you missed day one of ComplexCon in Chicago, you don’t want to miss day two! We will keep you updated with live footage, interviews, and photos throughout the day.
