Former NFL tight end Aldon Smith has once again been arrested for an alcohol related infraction. This past Monday night Smith was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving in Missouri when authorities stopped him for a traffic violation. He was stopped just around midnight. After seeing that he had been drinking, he was brought and booked a DUI charge. The former 49er has been arrested for no fewer than four DUIs since the beginning of his playing career. The latest incident is another segment within Smith’s long embattled history of alcohol and legal troubles.
Back in March 2018 Smith was arrested over allegations that he had assaulted his fiancee and fled the scene before police had arrived. He eventually turned himself in three days later. Following that arrest he was released from the Oakland Raiders, the second team that he gave him a chance after the San Francisco 49ers.
The judge ordered Smith to enroll into alcohol monitoring and be fitted with an ankle monitor. However when he arrived at the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department in April of 2018 to get the ankle bracelet, his blood-alcohol content was an astounding 0.41 – over five times the legal limit to drive in California.
After another incident where he allegedly bit his fiancee, Smith caught a misdemeanor charges of willful infliction of corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism (less than $400).
His now former fiancee has spoken out about the help she and her family have tried to give to Smith. They checked him into a rehab facility back in 2018.
‘I wish the best for Aldon,’ she said. ‘And I’m scared for his life with his addiction. I cannot comment on the altercation, but I can tell you I love him and [am] so happy he turned to my family who considers him family, and hopefully he gets the help he truly needs.’
