There always seems to be some kind of disturbing news coming out of the state of Florida. This was played up on “Atlanta,” season two, when Darius (LaKeith Stanfield) warned Earn (Childish Gambino) of Florida Man. But, there is also Florida Woman, who is often mentioned.
Jessica Stevenson (photoed above), age 33, was arrested on felony child abuse charges. This came after her second grade daughter repeatedly came to school in clothes covered in filth. A wellness check was done on the home, finding it infested with roaches and garbage.
With the daughter’s backpack often infested with bugs, as she and her siblings sleep on a soiled mattress, alongside cat feces, she and her siblings were removed from the house. Authorities found Stevenson’s room relatively clean, in comparison to the rest of the house. In her defense, Stevenson said she is a single mother doing the best that she can.
