In 2015, DJ Self was one of “Love & Hip Hop’s” new additions, along with Cardi B, who was vying to be his artist. Over the previous decade, Self rose the ranks to become one of NYC’s most-popular DJs. Joining the “Love & Hip Hop” cast only raised Self’s profile.
DJ Self already had a history of helping break many of the biggest artists in the game. He even got a shout out from J. Cole on his breakthrough 2013 single, “Power Trip,” where Cole shouted Self’s single out. When he joined VH1, Twitter fell for Self’s daughter, Kayla.
This afternoon, DJ Self had an IG post about another member of his family. Unfortunately, this wasn’t any good news, instead it was the worst news a child could receive. He let the world know that his mother was dead, and Self told people to not take having their mother for granted.
