A night of honor for the Queen Of Soul. Tyler Perry will be hosting a tribute concert for Aretha Franklin titled, Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul, thanks to the Recording Academy. In August 2018, the legendary songstress passed away at the age of 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Neil Portnow, the President/CEO of the Recording Academy goes on to explain why this tribute is a necessity by saying:

“Aretha Franklin’s reign as the ‘Queen of Soul’ is incomparable and undisputed. For more than six decades, her extraordinary artistic achievements coupled with her passionate dedication to her philanthropic work—which ranged from children’s and artists’ issues to civil rights activism—served as a testament to her power, majesty and genius. These gifts positioned her as a true cultural icon, and the Recording Academy is honored to celebrate her inspirational legacy.”

What’s even more exciting, is the diverse star-studded line up. Slated tribute performances by: Chloe x Halle, H.E.R., SZA, Janelle Monáe, John Legend, Common, Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Patti LaBelle, BeBe Winans, Brandi Carlile, Celine Dion, Alessia Cara and Kelly Clarkson. This lineup consists of new and old school vocally inclined heavyweights paired up with emerging R&B socialites.  The concert will be filled with exquisite voices, highly impressive harmonizing, soulful playing piano showboating, and most of all love and passion. Each honorary  tribute will feature these artists performing songs from the late soul legend’s iconic catalogue.

The live taping for the concert will be shot on January 13th, 2019 at 6PM, held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. The tribute will be broadcasted later in the year, airing on CBS.
