In recent years, fans have witnessed Joe Budden’s transition from rapper to media personality. In 2018, Joe completed all of his final touches of the transition after launching his Revolt show State of the Culture alongside melanin magic beauties, Remy Ma and Scottie Beam as well as teaming up with Spotify to launch ‘The Joe Budden Podcast’ with Rory and Mal. Although Joe has hung up his emcee hat, his past musical accomplishments still pay off! In November during his “Smash” episode from his podcast, Joe stated that a “smash hit record” is one that lasts over 10 years, citing his 2003 breakout single “Pump It up” as an example of a lasting hit record. He even details how the Just Blaze-produced record still provides a residual income for the retired rapper after 15 years.
Reffering to his “Pump it Up” track, Joe goes on to say, “I’m still paid about $18,000 a year from that.” To date, his debut single is his greatest record and peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard hot 100 chart. Despite the success of the now throwback record, after releasing his second album ‘The Growth,’ the Jersey native left his label and didn’t have another charting single as the lead artist until his 2012 “She Dont Put It Down” record featuring Lil’ Wayne and Tank.
