Make a wish… it just might come true!

Today (December 19th) Entertainment Weekly broke the internet after revealing the stars of Guy Ritchie’s live-action ‘Aladdin’ on their First Look issue. The upcoming Disney remake is set to be released in May 2019. The cover names Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, and Will Smith as the beloved genie!

In the sneak peek of the reimagined classic, Will Smith is seen with majority of his head shaved, except for a long top knot that is wrapped in a gold loop, a goatee and a blue and gold studded outfit with gems. The EW cover doesn’t do too much justice for Smith’s character being that he took to his Instagram to announce “I’m gonna be BLUE” in his caption. If this true, that’s even more amazing! It’ll take us right back to the 1992 animated film where Robin Williams played a very blue genie. Although Will Smith has huge shoes to fill with this character, I have no doubt that he will kill it! He’s done almost every genre in entertainment and now he’s tackling one of the 90s most iconic characters by stepping into the role of the Genie in Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin. Will Smith states he decided to do the role for many reasons. Reasons being to pay homage to Robin Williams, to bring his signature comedic skill to the timeless character, but also to infuse hip-hop and Disney considering the two have never really intertwined.

After introducing the fans to the new live-action world of the film, Twitter went crazy! It didn’t seem as though too many people were pleased. There were alot of concerns as to why Will Smith wasn’t blue, which he later took to social media to address the fact that he will be. Smith responded to a fan by saying:

“This is how the Genie is in Human/Disguise Form. My character will be CGI most of the movie.”

Just like with any remake though, not everyone will be satisfied. Although there was a lot of commentary about the outfits and such, it seems as though more fans are excited to see the new film come spring!
