Time is really going by too fast, because it’s been fourteen years since the debut of Akon, via “Locked Up.” That record, featuring Styles P, was a massive hit. It’s another run that’s gone forgotten, but Akon was the man, 2004-2008.
During this span of time, Akon dropped “Locked Up,” “Lonely,” “Soul Survivor,” “Smack That,” “Doesn’t Matter,” and “Bartender.” These songs all dropped months within each other. Each song ended up being fire on the charts, with “Smack That,” with Eminem, being the top one.
Akon sat down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN on “Drink Champs.” The interview saw Akon speak on his rise from being just another artist to signing Lady Gaga. But, he’d also discuss his financial rise, Africa, and that whole influence.
