YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Jay-Z ft. R. Kelly – “Guilty Until Proven Innocent”

In 2000, Jay-Z originally didn’t intend to drop a new album. At that point, he dropped a new album every year, since 1996. Due to his mounting legal problems, following the incident with Un, Jay-Z and Dame Dash decided to focus on building the Roc-A-Fella roster.

With that, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia was intended to be a compilation album. However, a final decision was made, and this became his solo fifth album. The elements of the compilation album remained, though.

However, all of the singles from the album were led by Jay-Z. The most-notable single was “Guilty Until Proven Innocent,” the companion song to R. Kelly’s “Fiesta,” where Jay made an appearance. This song, featuring Kelly, was the album’s third single, dropping in the spring of 2001, and is this week’s Wednesday Throwback, boasting cameos from AJ and Free, Angie Martinez, “TRL’s” Carson Daly, and more.
